Structured Wiring
One of the core parts of a home automation system is Structured Wiring. This involves running all of the non-electrical wiring in the house from one central location. This allows for easier setup as well as upgrades to the house as a whole. Panels with modular components can easily be upgraded and changed to allow for more functionality and control. If the house is in the building stages conduit, piping built into the walls for running cable and not water, can be installed. This allows the upgrading of wiring without costly damage to walls or drywall.
The main component of the structured wiring system is the structured wiring panel. Cables run into the box while modular components are hooked into the box for connectivity. The modules in the wiring panel can be changed out easily when upgrades are necessary.

Structured wiring panels come in a variety of sizes as wells styles to suit smaller or larger structured wiring installations.
Conduit: Conduit is flexible tubing that is installed in a house either during the initial building phases or after the fact if requested. This tubing contains the non-electrical wiring for the house (audio, video, data, telephone) and runs from the central wiring panel to every necessary room. The main benefit of putting conduit into a home is the fact that your house is upgradeable without lots of extra work. The existing wiring can be simply pulled out of the conduit and new wiring put in its place assuring that your house is never out of date. Below is an example of flexible conduit that can be installed in a house.

Wall Plates and Components: Wall plates are customizable jacks that can accept a number of different connectors used in household installations. These wall plates can have RCA jacks, F connectors, Banana connectors, Data connectors (RJ45), Telephone connectors and many others. Below are some examples of connectors and wall plates that are available to use.
